Jarvis, currently the director of marketing and comms, will become a director at the specialist education consultancy in July.

His move comes after more than four years at the university, where he leads a team of 32.

Before this, he was director of comms and public affairs for the 1994 Group, which brings together 11 research-intensive universities.

Jarvis said: ‘The scope of the role covers the more strategic side of comms, which is what I really enjoy doing. In the current climate of rapid change within higher education, where reputation is increasingly important to attract students and research funding, it is also something that organisations really need.’

Justin Shaw, managing director of Communications Management, said that Jarvis’ appointment to the newly created role would help the agency 'develop in a number of key areas'.

‘He will help beef up our skills in areas like public affairs, marketing and internal comms, as these are areas in which our clients are becoming increasingly demanding.

‘His role will be to help support the new business development and our team of consultants.’

The University of Birmingham has not yet decided how to replace Jarvis.
