The London-based New College of the Humanities (NCH) opened its doors last September with an intake of 56 students. It was founded by philosopher AC Grayling and employs well-known academics including scientist Richard Dawkins and historian Niall Ferguson.
The college has attracted criticism for being 'elitist'.
Described by Grayling as 'Oxbridge in London', its fees are double the standard university tuition fees and its students do not qualify for student loans.
It is also bidding to open a secondary school on the 'free school' model championed by Education Secretary Michael Gove and is waiting on a May decision from his department.
Hanover's brief, won after a competitive pitch, covers public affairs and PR. The work will be led by agency founder Charles Lewington and director Gavin Megaw.
Lewington said: 'We're working with NCH as it expands and demonstrates its innovative new model of higher education. It reaches out to potential students, as well as their parents and teachers, to explain the college's differences and advantages. It's a complex story to tell.
'At the same time, we are supporting outreach to some of the policymakers and influencers who are shaping the environment for new providers in UK higher education.'
