In addition to his previous role as head of pan-European iPad PR at Apple, Grange brings with him more than 20 years' experience in consumer technology, including a stint as Microsoft's head of UK PR.
He also helped to establish the Xbox brand in the UK and led campaigns for EA and Activision on major games releases such as FIFA and Call of Duty.
W Communications, which in the past has concentrated on consumer and lifestyle clients, plans to use this expertise to build its new division. The move will also strengthen the agency's social media offering, which includes experiential campaigns.
W's founder Warren Johnson said: 'Developing our consumer technology portfolio represents a natural next chapter in the agency's story, especially in light of the increasing role of mobile technology in people's connected lives.'
Grange said the chance to lead the new division 'was too good an opportunity to pass up,' adding: 'I'm thrilled to be taking a leading role in such an important venture.'
