Ex-Asia tech boss Raggett leaves H&K to go it alone

Hill & Knowlton has parted company with Bob Raggett, one of its

most senior directors in London and a former regional technology

practice head in the Asia-Pacific region.

Raggett returned from the region at the end of last year after a spell

as chief operating officer for Japan, to head the agency's global BT

account.

He has moved on following changes at BT that shrunk the account.

BT has been restructuring into smaller business units and pulling back

from some overseas regions.

Raggett said: 'It has shrunk a bit but is still a big account. As BT is

no longer in Asia, it is now a European and UK corporate account and has

to compete with the 15 or 16 other UK agencies the company has.'

Raggett said it was a good time to move on and insisted the split was

amicable.

He said he now wanted to focus on work he could do independently.

'I want to get into a higher level of strategic counsel as opposed to

basic PR,' he said.

'If PR is to be done properly it needs to be more closely linked to

commercial business strategy. If you are with an agency, you have to do

what they say but if I am on my own I can be choosy,' he added.

Raggett was in Asia for four years. Initially he went on a short-term

contract but stayed to set up the Asia-Pacific tech business.

Prior to joining H&K in 1987 he was deputy director of corporate

relations at BT.
