Marsh quits GPC for Bristol Myers Squibb position

GPC's healthcare practice head Richard Marsh is to join healthcare

firm Bristol Myers Squibb.

As GPC client BMS's first director of external relations, he will head a

three-strong team, reporting to John Celentano, V-P and general manger

of BMS's northern Europe arm.

Tessa Lush, BMS PR manager, who will report to Marsh when he starts,

said the appointment is part of a year-long strengthening of in-house

PR.

She said: 'The external affairs team was created earlier this year and

it was felt it needed to be strengthened further with this senior

appointment.'

Also reporting to Marsh will be Pauline Heath, NHS affairs manager, and

Jan Bulmar, government and industrial affairs manager.

GPC's London MD Kevin Bell said Marsh would not leave the agency until

his successor had been appointed. Seven candidates are understood to

have been interviewed so far.

BMS is best known for its beauty products, such as the Clairol haircare

range. However, most of its sales come from pharmaceuticals, including

the cholesterol reduction drug Pravachol. 2000 figures show BMS had

worldwide sales of £15bn.
