MEDIA: Collins selected to fill Granada TV controller post

Kieron Collins has been made controller of programmes at Granada

Television.

Collins is currently editor, BBC Manchester, entertainment and features,

and will have responsibility for all Granada TV's regional output

programming when he joins the company in January 2002.

He will report to John Whiston, Granada Content North director of

programmes.

Much of Collins' new role is strategic: 'It is about where you want

programmes and strands to be in two or three years' time.'

But he said PR agencies are crucial to the operation. 'PROs can interact

at many levels, with the newsroom and with regional programming. We rely

on (PRWeek) readers to communicate their news. Granada TV must be seen

to be the first place in the north-west you come if you have a story to

tell.'

Collins was a producer at Granada prior to joining the BBC, where he has

spent three years. His first job was as a reporter on Media Week.
