Ted Thornhill joins from The Huffington Post UK, where he was a news reporter, and previously held positions at The Daily Mail website, Metro online and The Sun’s TV magazine during a 15-year career in journalism.
Thornhill will report to Red’s Play division MD Isobel Coney, who heads up the team specialising in lifestyle and leisure.
He will work across a range of accounts which include drinks, sport, travel, home entertainment and telecoms with a responsibility to drive coverage on- and offline, as well as providing the agency with news insights and consultancy.
Andrew Baiden, group MD, said that Thornhill had been employed across a range of fast moving accounts such as Amazon, which generate a large number of stories.
He said the agency wanted to bring in journalists from ‘select media every couple of years’ to refresh its writing and news credentials.
