Karen Earl lands Orange's rugby union portfolio

Orange has appointed Karen Earl to handle its newly acquired Rugby

Union sponsorship portfolio.

The Incepta-owned sponsorship PR specialist has been tasked with finding

ways to maximise Orange's exposure, through the rugby deal, in the

UK.

Orange announced last month that it was to sponsor European rugby

competitions the Heineken Cup and The Parker Pen Shield.

The deal was made as the mobile firm strives to overtake Vodafone as the

largest mobile operator in Europe.

Karen Earl director Tim Crow heads the account, reporting to Orange head

of sponsorship, Peter Raymond.

Ben Taylor, Orange international sponsorship manager, said: 'We

highlighted rugby as a good way of reaching the business sector in the

UK and France.'

Havas Advertising's sponsorship division SRI has been hired to exploit

the deal in France.

This is Karen Earl's first major win since the company was acquired by

Incepta in September.

Incepta bought another sponsorship specialist Redmandarin at the same

time.

The move was taken to give the marketing services group a foothold in

the sponsorship sector.
