Gibbons will join the agency after serving as a director for the research company Populus, where she was responsible for overseeing comms and new business strategy.
Before this she worked as a senior adviser in Downing Street as deputy director of government relations and then director of events. She was also former prime minister Tony Blair’s director of corporate affairs after he left office.
Gibbons, who will join as Fenton an associate director, was also a board director at Edelman, heading the corporate and public affairs practice.
Fenton was launched in the US in 1982 and opened a London office in January 2012, with Alison Lucas serving as director.
‘Jo Gibbons has operated at the heart of the Government,’ said Lucas, who added: ‘Jo is an acknowledged comms expert and we are thrilled she has joined our team.’
In July 2012, the agency announced the appointment of academic and campaigner Professor Noreena Hertz, as its UK chairman.
