Fullagar will leave at the end of the month and told PRWeek he has no immediate plans, but was ‘looking forward to other opportunities'.

It is understood the director of corporate communications role will not be replaced and Fullagar’s responsibilities will be shared between joint heads of communications Rupert Smith and Rich Ellis, reporting in to company secretary and group legal director Paul Vickers.

Fullagar joined the Mirror in 1980 as a reporter, moving into communications in 1993 as head of public relations for Mirror Group.

The restructure of Trinity Mirror follows the appointment of former HMV boss Simon Fox as chief executive in August.
