INTERNATIONAL: Brussels expert to head H&K in western Europe

BRUSSELS: Hill & Knowlton has appointed Elaine Cruikshanks as its

first chairman and chief executive of continental western Europe.

Cruikshanks is promoted after three years as vice-chairman of H&K's

Brussels-based worldwide public affairs practice. She now has the

additional responsibility of overseeing business in France, Germany and

The Netherlands.

The promotion is part of an expansion by the agency across Europe. This

year it opened an office in Berlin, headed by Michael Schroder, CEO for

Germany.

Cruikshanks moved to Brussels in 1984 where she worked as second

secretary of external trade at Britain's permanent representation to the

European Community. She previously worked as a retail business

analyst.

She reports to Paul Taaffe, H&K International president.

'Elaine has a distinguished track record having turned H&K Brussels into

one of our most successful operations globally,'said Taaffe.
