BT Cellnet has hired two PR chiefs to lead its communications
division and replace former director of corporate communications,
Andrew Hawkins joins as director of corporate communications from the
London Chamber of Commerce, where he was campaigns director.
He will work closely with fellow recruit Kate Wright, who has taken on
the newly-created role of head of PR after a brief period as director at
hi-tech consultancy The Hoffman Agency.
Both jointly replace Ostrom who, after four years, has been promoted to
become communications manager at BT Wireless - of which BT Cellnet is
the UK mobile network operator.
At BT Wireless, Ostrom has a remit to develop the communications
function, leading an initial team of two and reporting to director of
European operations, Bob Warner.
Hawkins and Wright have been tasked with developing their respective
units, which will include recruitment.
Ostrom said a large part of the BT Cellnet PR strategy will be in
communicating upcoming issues to the market.
'The big challenges facing the mobile industry is the introduction of
third generation licences and bringing that to life in the market, using
PR to explain and corporate communications to develop the business.'
