GB arm of Guinness UDV PR overhaul near to end

Drinks giant Guinness UDV GB is close to completing a raft of

senior appointments as part of a communications overhaul.

The company has named former Kodak corporate and consumer PR manager

Clare Fleerackers as brand PR manager, responsible for a portfolio of

top drinks, which may include Guinness, Archers and Smirnoff.

A second brands PR manager is being recruited to complete the team under

the restructured communications division.

Meanwhile, a new internal communications manager, Sarah Bedford, is to

start on 1 October.

Guinness UDV GB media relations director Lindsey Sexton said the

announcements finalise a major review sparked off by the merger of

Guinness and UDV, completed on 1 July this year.

Prior to the merger, there was only a handful of PR staff based at

Guinness and UDV.

The team has now been boosted to 19, including the appointment of the

first director of communications to the board, Harriet Bryan, who was

promoted in January from her former role as internal communications

director for UDV Global.

'There was a desperate need to put communications on a much higher

agenda,' said Sexton. 'What has now been born is a fairly heavyweight

media relations team which we've been recruiting for the past five to

six months.'

Sexton, previously the sole external PR manager for Guinness in the UK,

now has a team of five reporting to her, with plans to recruit the extra

brand PR manager in the next few weeks.

She added that the company's external agencies - Countrywide Porter

Novelli and Lexis PR - will not be affected by the communications

review.
