Nelson Bostock Comms secures Samsonite brief

Nelson Bostock Communications has won a PR account for luggage

manufacturer Samsonite.

Samsonite appointed the consultancy on a retained basis following an

eight-way pitch.

Incumbent CMT International did not re-pitch for the account.

Nelson Bostock will handle all product PR for Samsonite and the Hedgren

brand of casual bags, for which the luggage company has worldwide

distribution rights.

Nelson Bostock has also been asked to develop a brand-building programme

targeting consumer and trade audiences.

Nelson Bostock associate director Sue Skeats will head a four-strong

team on the account. She reports to Lisa Davidson, Samsonite UK

marketing manager.

Skeats said the strategy would focus on reminding consumers of the

benefits of quality luggage, and educating them on the breadth of

products in the Samsonite portfolio.

Samsonite was founded in 1910 in Denver, Colorado in the US by Jesse

Shwayer. Its net sales for the fiscal year ending January 31 2001 were

£533m.

Eight years ago the firm bought American Tourister to add to its stable

of brands.

Nelson Bostock handles consumer briefs with clients including Swatch,

Toshiba, Yoplait, Bacardi-Martini and Stoves.
