Guardian Newspapers on hunt for PR unit supremo

Guardian Newspapers is on the lookout for a head of its PR, press

and corporate relations department following a major restructuring.



The move follows the departure of Camilla Nicholls in May (PRWeek, 18

May). She was credited with revolutionising both the in-house division

of the Guardian titles and Fleet Street PR in general during her 12-year

stint. Since leaving the firm she has been pursuing freelance work.



Guardian Newspapers marketing director Marc Sands confirmed the search

for a replacement was ongoing, but added that the firm was in 'no mad

rush' to make an appointment.



'It's such a culturally determined place that it could be a disaster if

the wrong person is chosen,' he said.



He added that Guardian Newspapers is confident the current trio in

charge of the PR unit can handle the department until an appointment is

made.



The three - newly installed head of communications Julie Turner

(formerly commercial PR manager), Guardian PR manager Isabel Milner

(promoted from Guardian and Observer senior PRO), and GuardianUnlimited

PR manager Sophie Silocchi - will report to the incoming head of PR, who

will, in turn, report to Guardian Newspapers MD Carolyn McCall.



The firm has also removed responsibility for editorial events and

sponsorship from the PR department, and merged it with the commercial

conferences and events division under the control of the marketing

department, reporting to Sands.



In other moves, commercial PRO Julie Taylor becomes commercial PR

manager in place of Turner, while Anna Sinfield becomes PRO for The

Guardian newspaper and GuardianUnlimited.
