The firm is one of the largest real estate investors in Europe, with more than £10bn of assets under management as of March 2012.

Firstlight will look to raise awareness of the firm's core activities and capabilities in the UK and Europe, as well as providing comms support for international projects.

David Paine, head of real estate, Standard Life Investments, commented: 'Our business is changing and developing with a compelling story to share across a range of markets. We believe that Firstlight's mix of industry experience and creativity will help bring it to life.'

Firstlight, established in 2009 by Paul Davies, was awarded the brief following a competitive pitch.
