Tonic Life research produced for the American Society of Clinical Oncology conference in June showed the pharma firms to have generated most coverage were Roche, with more than 200 articles, GSK, with around 130, and J&J with more than 100.

Edelman has hired Fiona Murray-Zmijewski as senior medical writer. She joins from Medicus International, having worked in medical comms for more than four years. Joanna Birdsey and Kristine Kelly have been recruited as senior account managers from FTI Consulting and New York-based PR firm Corkery Group respectively.

Sanofi has handed £50,000 to three patient groups - Ataxia UK, Crohn's & Colitis UK and Muscular Dystrophy Campaign - under its Patient Group Bursary scheme. Sanofi created the scheme in 2011 and received 100 applications this year.

The Blurt Foundation, a mental health charity, is using social network Pinterest to describe what it is like to suffer from depression. The charity is encouraging supporters via an email campaign to create their own Pinterest board to raise awareness of the illness, which affects one in five people at some point in their lives.
