MG Rover picks McKee as Poynter moves up

Car firm MG Rover has found a successor to former PR chief Gordon

poynter, hiring ex-Nissan Europe corporate affairs manager Stewart

McKee.

McKee joins as group PR director in mid-September, taking over from

Poynter, who has been promoted after 15 months in the role to the board

of MG Rover's recently acquired engine and gearbox firm Powertrain.

Poynter will continue to oversee PR for the group until McKee takes up

the post.

McKee, who was unavailable for comment as PRWeek went to press, will

report to MG Rover CEO Kevin Howe and assume all of Poynter's

responsibilities, except product PR, which now falls under the remit of

group marketing director John Sanders.

Poynter said: 'We've been fairly happy with our progress over the last

15 months - the international media now report on us in a more balanced

way.'

McKee will be based in MG Rover's sales and marketing centre at

Longbridge. The group announced it would be unifying all PR and public

affairs operations to its Longbridge base earlier this year (PRWeek, 19

January).

At Nissan Europe, McKee's remit has been taken on by Claire Martin,

alongside her previous responsibility as personal European PRO for

Nissan president and CEO Carlos Ghosn.

McKee resigned his post at Nissan Europe in March. Prior to his role at

the Japanese car firm's European HQ in Paris, McKee worked as UK

corporate affairs director - a post since filled by Andrew Horne

(PRWeek, 8 December 2000).
