Joint BBC New Media role for Conway

LONDON - The BBC has appointed its first divisional head of both communications and marketing. Steve Conway, who has taken up the newly created post at BBC New Media, is the only person to have the joint responsibility, aside from Andy Duncan, the BBC's overall director of marketing and communication.

The division is seen as a key area in the Corporation's growth as it covers its online and interactive TV brands, including www.bbc.co.uk, beeb. com and BBC Interactive Television.



BBC New Media PRO Robert Byrne said: 'This is a unique role within the BBC. We have a small team so it was felt that it was appropriate that this role had both responsibilities.

'We are not sure at this

stage whether this will lead to any further changes within management structures elsewhere,' he added.



Conway, who reports jointly to Duncan and BBC New Media director Ashley Highfield, joins from Radio Five Live, where he was marketing manager.



Conway is also the first PR head at the division. PROs within the ten-strong communications and marketing team previously reported directly to BBC2's publicity team.



Marketing was handled by head of marketing Tim Ledgard, who left the BBC in June.



Conway, who is now in

post, will handle PR for the BBC's online and interactive output for BBC 1's flagship autumn schedule series Walking With Beasts, a sequel to

the acclaimed Walking with Dinosaurs.
