INTERNATIONAL: Kopka picked to direct media for AOL Deutschland

HAMBURG: The German arm of media and tech behemoth AOL Time Warner

has hired Marc-Sven Kopka as director of media relations.

The position at AOL Deutschland has been vacant since Frank Sarfield

left at the turn of the year.

Kopka joins from Axa Colonia Deutschland, where he had responsibility

for relations with the economic and business press.

He said his initial aim at AOL would be to reorganise the internal

structures of the 10-strong PR team.

'It is worth considering the idea of fixed contacts for different

subjects, to structure press work more efficiently,' he said.

Alongside product PR for AOL and linked brands such as CompuServe and

Netscape, corporate communications is at the centre of Kopka's

tasks.

'We are the German branch of the largest media company in the world,' he

said. 'The online service must be positioned as a company and not as a

product.'
