PUBLIC SECT0R: Standards Board takes Stevenson to head comms

The newly created watchdog tasked with investigating the conduct of

local councillors has created its first PR function.



The Standards Board for England, created in March this year as part of

the Local Government Act 2000, has recruited Mark Stevenson as its first

head of communications.



He has joined on a secondment from the Local Government Association and

heads an initial team of three.



Stevenson is developing the board's first communications strategy and

will be involved in the recruitment of a permanent PR head next

year.



The strategy includes media relations for its launch later this year and

the creation of a corporate identity.



Agency Fishburn Hedges (FH) has been recruited to assist the in-house

team.



The FH team is lead by director Martin Le Jeune, previously assistant

secretary for the Committee of Standards in Public Life.
