Ogilvy Public Relations has been retained by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for a $1.3m (£830,000) contract to promote an anti-teen dating violence comms effort.

Edelman has appointed Glencore's head of comms Simon Buerk to lead the firm's regional expansion into the energy, natural resources, financial and corporate sectors. Omar Qirem, former chief press officer for UK Health Secretary Andrew Lansley, has been brought in to focus on expanding Edelman's Middle East public sector and crisis comms offering.

Ebay's Classifieds Group, which operates sites under the Gumtree and Kijiji brands, has selected GolinHarris to lead its PR efforts in major Asian markets. Meanwhile, in Australia, eBay has brought in Edelman to handle PR for Gumtree.

Waggener Edstrom Worldwide has promoted Jenny Moede to president of its North America region. She retains oversight responsibilities from her current role and of the North American business development and marketing teams.

Weber Shandwick and KRC Research's Company Behind the Brand study showed that 75 per cent of executives said a parent firm's reputation was just as significant as those of its individual products.
