Channel 5's press and publicity department is to undergo a raft of
changes as several staff are promoted and others take maternity
Tracey O'Connor, who was formerly head of entertainment publicity, will
become deputy head of press while continuing in her previous role.
C5 head of press Paul Leather said he had not previously had a deputy
and the role had been created to streamline communication while he was
away from the office.
O'Connor joined the channel in January. She previously spent time with
United Productions, working on the daytime shows The Trisha Show and
Before that she worked for Granada on This Morning.
The 16-strong press team, at the channel that launched in 1997, is also
having to restructure to cope with four female staff going on maternity
leave before Christmas.
Chris Aylott, previously publicity assistant for acquired programming
and events, has become publicist for acquired programming and
Lesley Anne Saville has completed a similar move upwards, becoming news,
factual and features publicist instead of publicity assistant.

In May Channel 5 appointed a new director of programmes, Kevin Lygo, who
was previously head of entertainment at Channel 4 and controller of
digital channel E4.
