Staff changes in Channel 5 press office revealed

Channel 5's press and publicity department is to undergo a raft of

changes as several staff are promoted and others take maternity

leave.

Tracey O'Connor, who was formerly head of entertainment publicity, will

become deputy head of press while continuing in her previous role.

C5 head of press Paul Leather said he had not previously had a deputy

and the role had been created to streamline communication while he was

away from the office.

O'Connor joined the channel in January. She previously spent time with

United Productions, working on the daytime shows The Trisha Show and

Vanessa.

Before that she worked for Granada on This Morning.

The 16-strong press team, at the channel that launched in 1997, is also

having to restructure to cope with four female staff going on maternity

leave before Christmas.

Chris Aylott, previously publicity assistant for acquired programming

and events, has become publicist for acquired programming and

events.

Lesley Anne Saville has completed a similar move upwards, becoming news,

factual and features publicist instead of publicity assistant.

Leather said both positions had been created to reward their work so

far.

In May Channel 5 appointed a new director of programmes, Kevin Lygo, who

was previously head of entertainment at Channel 4 and controller of

digital channel E4.
