City & Corporate: The Week in The City

The Observer's former City editor Richard Wachman is to join financial and corporate consultancy Yellow Jersey PR. Wachman had been the Sunday paper's City editor for 11 years before leaving in April and has also reported for The Guardian, Sunday Business and the London Evening Standard. He joins Yellow Jersey, headed by founder and MD Dominic Barretto, in September as a consultant.

FTSE 250 construction firm Balfour Beatty has switched its financial PR account to Maitland from Pelham Bell Pottinger following a competitive pitch. The Maitland team will be led by partners Brian Hudspith and Liz Morley, consultant Tom Eckersley and analyst Helen Fickling. The agency will report to Rebecca Salt, group comms director, and will look to highlight capabilities of Balfour Beatty in the global infrastructure market.

HeadLand has appointed Blue Rubicon's Dan Smith as a partner. The move follows the appointments last month of Neil Hedges and Dan Mines to HeadLand's board. Smith was previously an associate director at Blue Rubicon's strategic consulting business, Thirty Six Strategy. He has also previously worked as a consultant at Fishburn Hedges.
