Hit or Miss?: Teignbridge council asks Muse to help run its services for a day

Band on the run: Teignbridge District Council has invited rock band Muse to help run its services for a day.

The Devon council's leader Jeremy Christophers revealed that he met the rock stars, who come from Teignmouth, after they carried the Olympic torch in the area. Christophers said he would like the band to work with youngsters on energy depletion - a theme in the band's latest album.

HOW I SEE IT - POLLY CZIOK, HEAD OF COMMS AND CONSULTATION, LONDON BOROUGH OF HACKNEY

It's good to see such a bold PR stroke from a district council, and it making the most of its association with the 2012 Games.

As councils, our greatest assets are our residents, and local authority PR teams should always make an effort to involve influential local people as ambassadors for their areas.

However, this story didn't stand in narrative terms, and gave the impression of a stunt not properly thought through. I would have liked to have seen a clearer sense of purpose around the band's involvement, focused on inspiring young people, rather than sitting at the council leader's desk running services.

The danger of asking a band to help run the council is giving the impression that you need help, and that you are looking for it in the wrong place - MISS.
