British Olympic Association picks Pitch for medallists' brief

The British Olympic Association has chosen sports specialist Pitch to support its Olympics comms and merchandising.

Pitch is the sole agency to support the BOA comms team on managing media relations for medal-winning athletes.

A consumer campaign to boost sales of merchandise such as the Team GB supporters' scarf, sold in Next, also forms part of the brief.

Pitch has previously worked with the BOA on the PR activation of the British Olympic Ball, a pre-Olympic party held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in 2010 and 2011, as well as the ‘Our Greatest Team Rises’ fundraising event at the Royal Albert Hall in May.

The agency was also appointed by LOCOG in 2011 to promote ticket sales for the Games via a consumer-facing campaign, for which six million tickets have been sold, as well as activation initiatives for sponsoring brands.

Darryl Seibel, comms director for the BOA and Team GB, said: ‘Celebrating the performances of our medal-winning athletes, while supporting the needs of our athletes and the media during the London 2012 Olympic Games, represents a sizeable PR challenge.

'Pitch has proven it can work with the numerous stakeholders connected with the Games to deliver a compelling media proposition, which made the agency the perfect choice to support our efforts.'

Henry Chappell, CEO of Pitch, said:  ‘Britain’s medal-winning athletes will be the focal point of the nation’s attention over the coming weeks and we look forward to being able to assist the BOA with celebrating Team GB’s successes in front of the broadest possible audience.’
