Public Sector: Holt - rise of the 'anti-politicians'

The rise of so-called 'anti-politicians' is set to fundamentally alter the landscape of public sector comms, an industry expert has claimed.

In this week's online column for PRWeek, Bristol City Council comms director Peter Holt pointed to London Mayor Boris Johnson as an example of a sea change in political discourse. Holt said this could change PR practices in 'a big way'.

He added: 'Familiar issues we handle are more often viewed now very differently through the filter of a public commentary from a prominent anti-politician, whose quirky bluntness, if not rampant eccentricity, is lapped up by what is left of our traditional media and amplified further by social media.'
