Online music service Deezer in hunt for global agency

Online music service Deezer is on the hunt for a global agency as it looks to take on leading rival Spotify.

Although the music streaming provider has more than 20 million users in 88 markets, it has failed to capture mainstream consumer awareness like rival Spotify.

Deezer allows consumers to stream music across any device, and artists can promote their tracks on the site. The service has partnered with phone operators worldwide including Orange France and Everything Everywhere in the UK to allow pay-monthly customers to use its service.

Newly appointed director of international PR Julie Harari-West is heading up the search, which has already shortlisted a number of agencies.

She told PRWeek: ‘Deezer is one brand with one vision to be the only truly worldwide music streaming service and we want an agency that can communicate this on a global scale as well as locally.

‘The agency must be able to do this with either a presence on the ground in multiple markets or work with different agencies that already have the local relationships in place.’

The chosen agency will be required to demonstrate its ability to co-ordinate global messaging to connect with consumers, media and industry partners. Part of the brief includes the development of media tool kits that can be used regionally.

Harari-West, who is based in the company’s London office, is planning to have an agency in place by the end of the summer. It is not thought that the pitch process will affect Deezer’s existing agencies, which include LD Communications in the UK and Hunter PR in Ireland.

Rival Spotify recently hired M&C Saatchi as its consumer agency.
