UK PR firms pitch for Telewest roll out of broadband

Cable operator Telewest is staging a pitch among UK PR firms for a

brief to continue its broadband services roll-out.

Final pitches for the account, which is understood to carry fees of an

estimated £350,000 to £450,000, are currently being

presented to the client.

Six agencies - including incumbent QBO, appointed in April last year -

have pitched for the account. Thought to be on the shortlist are

MacLaurin, The Red Consultancy, Countrywide Porter Novelli, Consolidated

Communications and Hill & Knowlton.

The latest stage of the campaign focuses on Telewest's broadband cable

service, aiming to show the firm as the consumer's broadband

champion.

'The PR review reflects a departmental restructuring,' said Telewest

head of consumer PR operations Rachel Turner.

The programme includes PR for Telewest's digital TV and telephony

services.

Telewest and rival cable firm ntl have committed almost £10m to a

joint initiative to speed the take-up of high-speed, 'always-on'

internet access to consumers for £24.99 a month.
