Lodge left Research In Motion (RIM), the company behind BlackBerry, on 8 June to take up the role of European PR manager at Sonos.

Sonos is a consumer electronics company based in Santa Barbara, California, with offices in China, France, Germany, Malaysia and the Netherlands. Lodge will be based out of the company’s Amsterdam office.

Lodge will work with the soon to be appointed global PR head to develop strategic media and PR initiatives to help increase awareness of Sonos and its products globally.

He joined BlackBerry as its consumer PR manager in 2009 from Inferno Communications. He was promoted to the senior UK PR role in October 2011.

Lodge leaves RIM as the company looks to cut its workforce of 18,000 by 2,000, representing 11 per cent of its workforce.

RIM is planning to launch a new line of smartphones in a bid to remain competitive in a market dominated by Apple’s iPhones and the increase in Samsung sales.

Thorsten Heins, president and chief executive of Research In Motion, has confirmed the company aims to save £638m by the end of fiscal 2013 through ‘significant spending reductions and headcount reductions’ and by achieving ‘better efficiency and use of resources in our sales and marketing initiatives’.

The announcement comes as the company starts a review of its UK public affairs agency after parting ways with incumbent Open Road.

In the UK, RIM uses Good Relations for its b2b PR brief, Frank PR for consumer and Edelman’s A&R for its social media work.
