The high street chain has hired Helen Lacey, chief press officer at Which?, as its senior PR manager.

She has been brought in to handle the company’s corporate, international, personal finance and social media comms as well as the promotional work around Debenhams.com.

Focus PR account manager Kate Thomas has been appointed as PR manager to look after beauty, kidswear, charity and retail services.

Jenny Slungaard, PR manager at Icon Live, has also come in as a PR manager to cover womenswear and accessories, including the Designers at Debenhams collection.

Lacey said: ‘The appointments are part of a shift around in comms to fit more closely with our company strategy and objectives, as well as give members of the team the chance to take a step up.’

Lacey, Thomas and Slungaard all report to Ed Watson, who was recently promoted from head of PR to director of PR.

The revamp of the comms team comes as the retail chain kicks off its ‘summer spectacular’ campaign offering more than £200m in reductions with discounts in store of up to 25 per cent.

The campaign aims to ‘lighten the mood of the nation’ as the public’s attention turns to holidays and the Queen’s Jubilee.

The comms department has also hired Gemma Owen as its social media co-ordinator. Owen has joined from ISM Search and Social where she was account manager. She reports to Lacey.
