Wheeler is joining Viagogo, Europe’s leading online ticket marketplace, in a newly created role as global comms director. He takes up the new role in September.

Wheeler said: ‘It was a huge decision to leave Freuds having spent almost all my working life at the agency. However, I have worked with Viagogo for the past six years and it is a very impressive, consumer-focused business. I am excited to be joining a company that is not only the leader in its field, but also one of Europe’s most successful internet companies.’

Freud has represented Viagogo since its launch in 2006 and will continue to represent the company.

During this time at Freuds, Wheeler set up the corporate reputation department, now one of the largest and most influential divisions, as the consultancy has expanded beyond its consumer PR roots.

His main accounts were PepsiCo, Yum Brands and Birds Eye. Wheeler is also known as an expert in crisis communications.

Nicola Howson, Freuds’ CEO, said she would replace Wheeler with another senior corporate player. The corporate division is run by MD Arlo Brady, while the consumer arm is run by MD Nick Mulholland.

‘Oli is a phenomenal operator and a great guy, and it is very sad to lose him,’ said Howson.

Wheeler, one of chairman Matthew Freud’s key ‘fixers’ and friends, is married to Holby City star Tina Hobley.
