INTERNATIONAL: Wehmeier secures chief comms role at Berenberg

HAMBURG: Berenberg Bank - Hamburg's oldest private bank - has

handed Karsten Wehmeier the top PR post of head of press and

publicity.

Berenberg Bank was founded in 1590 by brothers Hans and Paul

Berenberg.

Its volume of business totals more than pounds 1bn and the bank focuses

on individual services for private and business customers, commercial

lending, the financing and settlement of foreign trade transactions,

investment advice and portfolio management for private and business

customers.

Wehmeier is responsible for all the bank's communications, including

advertising, events and PR, as there is no marketing department.

He takes over the role from the bank's former PR chief Peter Hinrichs,

who retires after 16 years in the position.

Wehmeier will head a support team of three at the private bank, which

has 370 employees, including a renowned analysis team.

The division takes care of all PR for Hamburg and for the branches in

Berlin, Bremen, Frankfurt and Luxembourg.

Berenberg serves more than 5,000 private and corporate clients, for whom

selected functions and corporate events - such as concerts and golf

tournaments - are organised as publicity.

Wehmeier previously worked in corporate communications for Cologne-based

insurance group Parion.

He handles PR for the group's own life insurance companies, including

Gothaer Lebensversicherung.
