Public Affairs: The Week in Lobbying

Nationwide Building Society head of policy and public affairs Gary Follis has been appointed as Ed Balls' new chief of staff. He will start work in April. Follis has previously worked as head of public affairs at Alliance & Leicester, and as special adviser to the Chief Whip.

The Welsh Assembly's three opposition parties are calling on the Welsh government to publish details of its meetings with lobbyists. The Liberal Democrats have urged the Welsh government to draw up a list. Ministers said they would look at guidelines from London and decide if there was any merit in a Welsh version of a lobbying register.

ScottishPower has launched a pitch process for its public affairs work as the energy sector faces a period of 'political scrutiny and regulatory change'. The Iberdrola-owned company is calling on agencies that can demonstrate a strong knowledge of Westminster, Edinburgh and Cardiff. ScottishPower currently uses Fleishman-Hillard.

The Whitehouse Consultancy has announced two new appointments to its team. Alessandro Fusco and Oliver Cardinali have both joined the Westminster-based agency as monitoring and research executives. Fusco previously worked at Macmillan Cancer Support, and Cardinali has worked with a number of charities and in public affairs in Wales.
