Hudson Sandler has appointed Kirsty Leighton as MD, reporting to CEO Andrew Hayes. Most recently, Leighton was MD of Text 100 in the UK and also worked as global head of client development at Waggener Edstrom.

Rialto Energy, an Australian-listed oil and gas exploration company, has handed its financial comms account to Buchanan Communications. The firm, which has offices in Perth, Australia, London and the Cote d'Ivoire, plans to list on London's AIM later this year.

MHP has given comms advice in relation to the acquisition of Tobar Group, the owner of Hawkin's Bazaar and Letterbox direct business. The business was acquired from administration by the management team, supported by Primary Capital, which saved 150 jobs.

Tulchan Communications has recruited retail analyst Katharine Wynne as a consultant. She joins on 20 February from Investec, where she was a sell-side analyst covering the UK retail sector. Previously, she spent 12 years at Merrill Lynch (now Bank of America Merrill Lynch).

Gardant Communications managing partner Claire Davidson and partners Locksley Ryan and Lawrence Dore have left the agency to set up a new, as yet unnamed, agency.
