Midlands Co-op public relations brief out to pitch

The Midlands Co-op is inviting agencies to pitch for its PR brief. The

decision to outsource communications follows the departure of

in-house PR manager Ann Juby, who has left after ten years to start a

family.

'We are looking for a specialist PR agency to handle our retail and

consumer accounts,' said corporate affairs manager Peter Vaughan.

The Co-op still retains an in-house PR operation in Juby's assistant,

PRO Sarah Duncan.

Midlands Co-op has more than 350 food outlets and employs 7,500. It has

an annual turnover of pounds 750m. 'We have a significant core retailing

of food and non-food products and dairy trading interests, and we will

be seeking specialist agencies that are aware and able to maintain our

ethical standards of trading to pitch for the brief,' said Vaughan.

He said the decision to outsource its PR was a part of the society's

'progressive plans'.
