Acheson-Gray, who left Grayling at the end of 2011, held the position of MD International for more than two years.
Acheson-Gray will join APCO at the end of January to lead its 50-person London team, based in Covent Garden. He will replace current MD Ed Walsh, who is to take on a new role as MD, Europe. Acheson-Gray will report to Walsh.
Grayling bagged the Europe and Asia Pacific account for British Airways in April with Acheson-Gray tasked with heading up the account covering the PR for 38 countries.
Acheson-Gray told PRWeek: ‘The fact that APCO is privately-owned attracted me and also that they have such a big focus on clients.
‘It was the right time for me to make a change especially after being in one PR firm for 18 years. Although it is a pity that I only got to work on the British Airways account for nine months.’
APCO's london office has made a series of senior hires. In July, Michael Burrell joined as vice chairman, public affairs, Europe. Last month Lionel Zetter, former CIPR president, joined APCO as a consultant in the London office.
