Based at the organisation’s International Secretariat in London, Schultz-Jagow will join Amnesty in March 2012.
He joins Amnesty from Oxfam GB where he is currently director of comms, having previously held the role of director of campaigns at the charity.
Schultz-Jagow has also worked as director of comms at WWF and for Greenpeace in Germany.
Amnesty International secretary general Salil Shetty said: ‘We look forward to working with him to drive forward high-impact campaigns and communications at a time when the fight for human rights around the world is so important to millions of people as they stand up against repression and injustice.’
Schultz-Jagow said he had admired Amnesty for ‘many years’, adding: ‘It will be a privilege to lead the merger of Amnesty International’s campaigns and communications work at a time when the organisation is focusing on growth in the global south.’
