French group Havas takes over Hudson Sandler

Top 10 City PR outfit Hudson Sandler has been acquired by French

marketing and PR group Havas in a deal reportedly worth up to pounds 20

million.

The 12-year-old consultancy - one of London's few remaining independent

financial agencies - has sold 60 per cent of its shareholding to Havas

Advertising. This is Havas' first acquisition of a London-based

financial PR firm.

Alistair Mackinnon-Musson, a board director at Hudson Sandler, said:

'There is more and more demand for agencies to be international and

Havas gives us the opportunity to increase our presence.'

Hudson will join Havas' Diversified Agencies Group - one of four

divisions which concentrates on the corporate and marketing services

sectors - and will work in partnership with Paris-based financial and

corporate communications consultancy, W and Cie.

Mackinnon-Musson said Havas aims to form a strong Anglo-French PR and IR

capability to work on pan-European clients.

Hudson's relationship with Havas began a year ago when it advised

marketing services group Lopex to accept Havas' takeover offer following

a hostile bid by Incepta Group (PR Week UK, 23 July).

Havas is set to become the world's fourth largest communications group

on completion of its pounds 1.5 billion takeover deal with US-based

Snyder Communications.
