City & Corporate: MoneySupermarket shakes up comms

The UK's largest price comparison website has switched its financial and corporate PR from Tulchan Communications to Maitland.

London Stock Exchange-listed MoneySupermarket.com changed its financial PR adviser after a competitive review. Maitland will manage the group's financial comms with the media and analysts, reporting to Paul Doughty, chief financial officer, and Susannah Clark, head of PR.

The account will be led by William Clutterbuck, head of Maitland's financial services team, alongside Emma Burdett, head of IR at Maitland.

Clutterbuck confirmed that Maitland would be representing the brand 'at a time when falling family budgets are increasing the attraction of sites that help consumers make their money go further'.

MoneySupermarket has continued to grow despite the uncertain economic climate. Visitors to the site were up by three per cent in the third quarter compared with the same period in 2010. The group has seen Q3 profits grow by 25 per cent.

The firm said that sharp rises in gas and electricity prices have prompted a surge in the number of people switching suppliers, leading to its 'home services' business doubling in the past three months.

The site also allows consumers to compare products across financial services (loans, credit cards and bank accounts), insurance, travel (including flights and package holidays) and home services (utilities, mobile phones, shopping and broadband).

Meanwhile, Maitland has also picked up the retained financial PR account of Intermediate Capital Group. The FTSE 250 mezzanine finance and credit investment group has charged Maitland with raising its profile in the international investment community.

The firm has EUR11.8bn assets under management and recently announced a EUR1.1bn first close of its latest fund.
