DIARY: Oar blimey! Olympic champ lands PR posting

The opportunity to bring a little minor celebrity and ennoblement

into PR has been seized by Craigie Taylor International, which has

appointed Fred Scarlett MBE, Olympic gold medallist from Britain's

rowing eight, to its business rights and sales division.

Scarlett, who handled the sponsorship arrangements for his Olympic crew

in Sydney last year, reports to deputy MD Giles Morgan. His main

responsibilities include matching potential agency clients with

sponsorship opportunities.

Scarlett's appointment is not wholly unique, however, with former

Commonwealth Games cycling silver medallist Paul Jennings joining

Leeds-based agency Sinclair Mason last month.

Jennings, who competed in the 1992 Olympics and the 1994 Commonwealth

Games, has previously worked for Bell Sports USA.

Is this the start of a range of crossovers between fields? Maybe not,

but if you want to get ahead in the PR industry, win yourself a medal.
