INTERNATIONAL: Policy Action is selected to assist ZFS links with EU

BRUSSELS: Insurance group Zurich Financial Services (ZFS) has hired

public affairs firm Policy Action to improve links with key

decision-makers in the European Union.

Policy Action, headquartered in Brussels, won the account following a

four-month competitive pitch, which is believed to have included up to

nine agencies.

The account is headed by Policy Action's Brussels head Lucy Cronin, who

reports to Sophie Timms, ZFS government and industry affairs policy

adviser.

'The brief is to inform middle and high management in ZFS as to how

their divisions can be affected by the EU,' said Cronin. 'It will also

involve introducing people in ZFS to the key EU decision-makers.'

She added: 'They want the knowledge of, and involvement in, the

decision-making processes in the EU without it being in-your-face

lobbying.'

Policy Action also announced plans to open a London office, in place of

the existing temporary Kent-based operation, and to launch a

Washington-based division later in the year.

The agency will be recruiting to staff the Washington office, which is

likely to be headed by co-managing director Wes Himes, who previously

worked in Washington with the American Legislative Exchange Council as

director of state development.

Policy Action launched in November 1999.
