Borkowski PR has been appointed to handle UK consumer PR for small
car brand Smart Cars, which launches its right-hand drive model in the
UK in the autumn.
The account was won following a competitive two-way pitch, and means
Borkowski will work on the brand up until Christmas this year.
The work will be headed by Borkowski senior account director Joanne
McNally, who reports to Debbie Hull, press and PR executive at
DaimlerChrysler UK, which distributes the motor.
The two-seater cars are designed for maximum versatility and are used
predominantly in towns and cities.
Retailing from pounds 5,500 on the road, the vehicles are 2.5m long by
McNally describes the target market as 'people who're young at heart and
looking for something different and funky'.
The car is made by Daimler-Benz in conjunction with Swiss watch
manufacturer SMH, which make the Swatch range, leading to the product
being dubbed 'The Swatchmobile' in some quarters.
The Smart Car was launched in October 1998, having been delayed after
the vehicle flipped over during safety tests in 1997. Its left-hand
