City & Corporate: The Week in the City

Boeing, the US aerospace giant, has appointed Matthew Knowles as comms director for the UK and Ireland.

He joins from ADS, where he headed comms for the trade body of the UK's aerospace, defence and security industries. Knowles replaces Nick West, who had headed Boeing's UK and Ireland comms for almost eight years, before joining UK-based defence tech firm Raytheon in May this year.

The European Defence Agency has hired Eric Platteau as head of media and comms. He was formerly chief comms officer at SESAR, the European air traffic management programme established by the European Commission. He has also worked for Brussels Airlines, Baxter Healthcare and Orange.

Dreams, the privately owned bed manufacturer, has appointed Tulchan Communications as its financial PR agency.

Cinven, the private equity firm, has recruited Vanessa Maydon to head its comms and marketing. She was formerly a director at City PR agency Merlin.

Ilika, a cleantech materials discovery company, has brought in Walbrook PR to handle its financial PR. The agency will support the firm's financial media relations, analyst relationships and investor relations with small-cap investor groups in London.
