STOP PRESS: Whittle selected to control BBC editorial

The BBC has appointed Stephen Whittle as controller of editorial

policy with a brief to ensure the broadcaster sets and observes the

highest ethical and editorial standards. Whittle, who takes up the post

in July, is director of the Broadcasting Standards Commission. In his

BBC role he will report to the executive committee and board of

governors.
