Compaq recruits PR boss Winn for UK and Ireland job

Compaq has hired its first PR manager dedicated to the UK and

Ireland.

Kate Winn has joined in the newly-created role as number two to Nicola

Adamson, Compaq UK and Ireland head of corporate communications.

Winn was previously head of communications at GoodCorporation.com, which

is involved in setting up a global network for corporate social

responsibility.

The brief is to co-ordinate and manage incumbent hi-tech agency Firefly,

which has been retained by the firm for the last five years.

A large part of the remit is also to raise awareness of Compaq's latest

services.

'Compaq is moving on from just making IT hardware to offering businesses

a full solution,' said Winn.

'I will be working with Firefly to develop campaigns that will reflect

that change and also to make sure our reputation as a provider of

leading hardware is maintained,' she added.

Previously, Winn worked for five years at Marketforce Communications,

working as an account director on clients such as KPMG.

GoodCorporation is currently recruiting both internally and externally

to replace Winn.

In-house PRO Jo White has assumed the head of communications role,

looking after a ten-strong team, until Winn's successor is

appointed.

Compaq, which was established in the UK in 1984, recently joined forces

with Starbucks to provide wireless internet access to the coffee giant's

outlets.

The computer company now sells its products and services in more than

200 countries worldwide.
