It is understood that the company has initiated a pitch process and has already shortlisted a number of consumer agencies.

The brief is thought to call for an agency to target consumers in their 20s and 30s.

The Edrington Group, based in Glasgow, is a private company that has been involved with the whisky industry since 1860.

It owns brands that also include The Famous Grouse and Glengoyne.

The company is part of the Zero Waste Scotland initiative and has recently built a prototype of a lighter weight whisky bottle which, the company claims, could save more than 2,100 tonnes of glass each year.
