INTERNATIONAL: Havas Advertising hands Gillham top comms post

PARIS: Havas Advertising, the parent company of the Grayling

Group's UK PR brands, has filled its top communications post with the

appointment of Simon Gillham.

Gillham, who joins as vice-president of communications, has been

recruited from car supplies firm Valeo Group where he held the same

position. He replaces Julie Ades, who is leaving the company later this

month.

Gillham reports to Havas chairman and CEO Alain de Pouzilhac, who hopes

to use the appointment to raise the firm's profile in English-speaking

countries. Gillham will head a seven-strong team at Havas's Paris

HQ.

Pouzilhac said: 'I am counting on him to develop our group's internal

and external communications plan to strengthen our identity and image

worldwide.'

Before joining Valeo in 1999, Gillham was in charge of marketing at

Richmond Rugby Football Club. He has also been vice-president of

communication for Thomson Consumer electronics, now called Thomson

Multimedia.

'My role has been expanded. The company felt it was important we do more

to promote ourselves globally. That may lead to an increase in

personnel.'

Havas has four divisions globally: Euro RSGG Worldwide, based in New

York; Media Planning Group, in Barcelona; Diversified Agencies, which is

located in Paris but houses the UK's Grayling firms; and Boston-based

Arnold Worldwide Partners. Between them, they employ more than 20,000

staff.
