EDITORIAL: Monitoring loss is clients' gain

GPC's dismantling of central monitoring after Bradley Rogers'

departure spells good news for clients, even if the firm appears to be

making policy on the hoof. MD Peter Bingle has a valid point when he

argues that account teams taking responsibility for their clients'

monitoring makes them better consultants. If account staff are aware of

every parliamentary question and early day motion affecting their

clients' sector, their advice will surely be of greater value. Most

senior lobbyists grumble about monitoring's cost when the fees generated

are so small. GPC's decision was not apparently taken on best practice

grounds, but, if others go down this route, clients will be the winners.
