Maitland Consultancy replaces FD at Tesco

Supermarket giant Tesco has ended its search for a new financial PR

agency by hiring the Maitland Consultancy.

Tesco had used Financial Dynamics for more than five years but had

called a review and competitive pitch process last month (PR Week UK,

October 13) following the retirement of FD deputy chairman George

Welham, who ran the account.

FD is thought to have pitched again for the work along with three other

City PR firms. The account is understood to carry fees in the region of

pounds 250,000 per year.

The work will be led by Maitland founder and chairman Angus Maitland. He

reports to Tesco corporate affairs director Lucy Neville-Rolfe, who

oversees its investor relations programme and financial communications.

Maitland will work closely with Tesco group finance director Andy

Higginson.

Neville-Rolfe said: 'Following a review of our needs, Maitland has been

appointed. We do not exclude the possibility of employing FD again in

the future.'

There is an ongoing recruitment drive at the UK's largest supermarket

chain. Tesco has seen a raft of senior PROs depart recently.

Corporate communications manager Andrew Coker left six months ago (PR

Week, January 28) and has not been directly replaced. European

government affairs manager Bernard Hughes left last month to head PA at

Edelman PR Worldwide in London. He has yet to be replaced in a role that

has been reshaped by Neville-Rolfe.

International corporate affairs manager Nicole Lander has also left the

company to join Woolworths (PR Week UK, 24 October), and is yet to be

replaced.

David Sawday remains as head of media relations, and has been tipped for

a newly-created UK communications director post. Neville-Rolfe said: 'I

cannot comment on ongoing recruitment matters.'
